VGrind infinity linear in action: Atomit Durawid expands production with Vollmer 2026-05-18

to overview

Atomit Durawid GmbH, based in Plettenberg in Germany’s Sauerland region, is a specialist in custom tools of all kinds. With its solutions, the company supplies nearly all industrial sectors and consistently pursues the goal of offering its customers everything from a single source – from development to manufacturing. To further expand this approach and make its own production more independent and automated, Atomit Durawid invested for the first time in a grinding machine from VOLLMER: a VGrind infinity linear for the production of rotary tools.

Atomit Durawid GmbH was founded in 1987 and was acquired in 2024 by Sergej Odenbach and Dietrich Strekert, who now manage the company as managing directors. With around 20 employees, Atomit Durawid is firmly rooted in Plettenberg. “For us, Plettenberg is not just a location, but home,” says Dietrich Strekert. “This is where we aim to build a large, stable, and future-proof company with short distances, a high level of vertical integration, and a clear commitment to Germany as a business location.”

Everything from a single source – focus on custom tools
Atomit Durawid operates in several business areas, including valve manufacturing, sheet metal processing, and toolmaking. Its key products include finishing heads, profile tools, form indexable inserts, and rotary tools. In 2025, the company served more than 200 active customers from a wide range of industries. Its long-term strategy is clearly defined: maximum independence, self-sufficient production, and a comprehensive service portfolio from a single source.

“Our customers expect flexible, customized solutions—that’s exactly where we see our strength as a specialist in custom tools,” explains Sergej Odenbach. “In some areas, we wanted to take the next technological step. That’s why we deliberately chose VOLLMER.”

Entering VOLLMER technology with the VGrind infinity linear
Since December 2025, Atomit Durawid has been using a VOLLMER grinding machine. With the VGrind infinity linear, the company is opening up new possibilities in the production of rotary tools and laying the foundation for further automation and greater production independence. In addition to the overall concept, the intensive consulting and support provided by VOLLMER were key factors in the investment decision. “What convinced us was the sales process, the on-site application expertise, and the partnership-based approach.” The new technology has also been very well received within the team. Employees particularly appreciate its ease of use and the opportunities that the new machine offers.

Partnership with an eye on the future
A central concern for Atomit Durawid is to source as much as possible regionally and to involve local manufacturing partners when needed. At the same time, the company relies on high-quality “Made in Germany” technologies. The collaboration with VOLLMER therefore fits perfectly with its own vision. “What we particularly appreciate so far is the helpfulness and close cooperation,” says Strekert.

“Atomit Durawid is a prime example of many medium-sized companies that aim to unlock new levels of vertical integration with a clear vision and a high degree of specialization,” says Andreas Nitka, Regional Sales Manager at the VOLLMER Group. “Starting with a VGrind infinity linear is a logical step and a strong foundation for further expanding custom tool production.”
